LeapFrog School Unveils Story Explorers

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

LeapFrog SchoolHouse, which makes preK-8 learning tools, has released Leapster Story Explorers, an interactive English language program for K-3 students for use with its Leapster handheld units.

Story Explorers offers multiple learning levels, tutorials, and various activities geared to develop language skills, story comprehension, and reading ability. The platform provides instruction and skill practice for English language vocabulary, phonemic awareness, language structures, and comprehension at proficiency levels 1 and 2.

In terms of teacher support, Story Explorers helps teachers track individual student progress and tailor class curricula to student needs. The system also pairs the English content with Spanish audio support to teachers who don't speak fluent Spanish.

The system is part of LeapFrog's Leapster Portable Technology Centers (PTCs), which offer kits for math, spelling, and critical thinking instruction for K-2 students. PTC software provides skills practice that ratchets up lesson difficulty. As students increase to higher skill levels, the kits offer hints and tutorials to help them surmount their next learning curve.

The base Story Explorers kit starts at $1,050 and includes five Leapster handheld units, seven cartridges, five headphones, five AC adapters, 21 student practice books, a teacher's manual and a power strip. Expansion kits ($150 to $525, depending on the number of students), practice book refills ($165 for 21), and a three-student starter kit ($89 for one cartridge, one practice book and one teacher manual) also are available.
