eInstruction Debuts DualBoard, Mobi System, Workspace 8.0

Education technology developer eInstruction has introduced a new slate of interactive tools for use in classroom instruction, including new hardware devices and an update to the company's Interwrite Workspace software. The new lineup debuted at the FETC 2009 conference going on in Orlando, FL this week.

Included in the expanded lineup introduced Wednesday are the new Mobi System, which includes includes a Mobi teacher tablet, a student tablet, and a docking system, and the new Interwrite DualBoard, a whiteboard designed to accept input from two whiteboard pens simultaneously.

The Mobi System is a hardware solution designed for use with Interwrite CPS (Classroom Performance System), a student response system. The Mobi tablet for teachers includes an LCD screen that displays student responses to interactive assessments, allowing instructors to view participants' answers in real time.

There's also a "learner" tablet, which, instead of a color LCD screen, includes a three-line black and white screen. Multiple Mobi wireless devices can be used in the same classroom at the same time, and up to nine can be used in a single "workgroup."

The Mobi System is compatible with all current eInstruction hardware and also supports the company's Learning Series and ExamView software. The Mobi System runs $1,149 and includes the teacher tablet, two learner tablets, a dock/charging station, power supply, USB cable, Workspace 8 software, and the Workspace content gallery.

Also debuting at FETC this week is the new Interwrite DualBoard, an interactive whiteboard designed to support input from multiple whiteboard pens. The DualBoard is an update to the Interwrite Board line, and existing Interwrite whiteboards can be upgraded to support the new features. The upgrade kit will replace the existing whiteboard controller and includes a second pen for use with the dual-pen functionality.

Finally, eInstruction has also announced Interwrite Workspace 8.0, a full-version update to the collaborative learning suite that supports the Interwrite hardware. is a software tool that provides digital media resources for teaching and assessment. These include instructional animations for interactive learning, an educational clipart library on a variety of topics for multiple grade levels, a searchable online library of interactive lessons aligned with state standards, and various media tools for Flash, audio, and video.

According to eInstruction, "Since Workspace 8.0 is designed on an open architecture, virtually any third-party program or content source can be used as instructional material."
