New IPEVO Device Lets Document Cameras Stream Directly to iPad

Classroom technology manufacturer IPEVO has released the WS-01 Wireless Station, a device that allows teachers to stream video and images from various IPEVO document cameras directly to the iPad. The device sells for $69, and works in conjunction with IPEVO Whiteboard, a free iPad app available through Apple's App Store.

According to the announcement, the new WS-01 is compatible with the Ziggi, Ziggi-HD, and Point 2 View document cameras, and connects via standard USB, using Wi-Fi to stream from the camera to a paired iPad. Users can then project from the iPad to larger screens using a VGA adapter or wirelessly using Apple TV. The IPEVO Whiteboard app adds functionality to the experience, allowing teachers to annotate and highlight projected images using the iPad's touch interface.

"Educators have long used IPEVO's document cameras on their PCs and Macs, but with the release of the Wireless Station, a new world is opened up with iPad compatibility," said Royce Hong, CEO of IPEVO, in a prepared statement. "The tablet is a crucial new teaching tool, and IPEVO has bridged the tech gap so that captured documents and 3D objects can be displayed as well as annotated through iPad."

Additional features of the WS-01 Wireless Station include:

  • "Live View" mode, allowing users to stream Internet video through an browser;
  • An SD card reader;
  • A USB disk drive; and
  • The ability to share an Internet connection with other devices.

The WS-01 Wireless Station can be purchase from IPEVO at ipevo.com.
