Indiana Online Academy Implements Integrated Platform for Individualized Learning

Indiana Online Academy, an alternative education option enabling high school students to earn credits online, has implemented an integrated learning platform to help the school manage its online course materials and create personalized learning pathways for its students.

The school wanted the ability to create individualized learning paths for its students based on pre-assessments, with the goal of improving student engagement, helping instructors guide learning outcomes, and improving overall student achievement. To meet those goals, school administrators decided to implement Desire2Learn Learning Suite, which "allows us the flexibility to develop individualized learning paths to meet the needs of all students," said Ronda Eshleman, principal of IOA, in a prepared statement.

Desire2Learn Learning Suite is an integrated learning platform that includes an online learning environment, a repository for learning materials, an e-portfolio tool, predictive analytics, a lecture-capture tool, and support for mobile devices. IOA currently plans to offer 72 courses through Desire2Learn Learning Suite, including math, science, and even driver's ed.

According to the company, Desire2Learn Learning Suite will help IOA gain insight into each student's individual progress and use that information to provide personalized content suited to the student's learning style. The school will also use the suite to centrally manage course materials in alignment with State and Common Core Standards to make it easier for instructors to find the resources they need. The tool also provides students and staff opportunities to collaborate and connect around content and activities.

Indiana Online Academy is part of the Central Indiana Educational Service Center, a collaboration of public school districts. The academy is a supplemental program that partners with schools to offer online classes as an alternative method of earning high school credits.
