Oregon ED Adopts Blended Math Programs fro Grades K-8

The Oregon State Board of Education has adopted a pair of blended math programs for use in grades K-8 across the state.

The board is adopting i-Ready and Ready Common Core Mathematics from Curriculum Associates.

"Built for the Common Core State Standards, the programs are the only ones in the history of the adoption process to receive a perfect score and an exemplary rating across all K–8 grade levels during the Oregon Instructional Materials Evaluation Process conducted by the Oregon Department of Education, according to a news release. "According to the department, the programs received this score based on their alignment to the Oregon Common Core State Standards in Mathematics."

Ready Common Core focuses on conceptual understanding through a gradual-release instructional model and use of reasoning, modeling and discussion designed to explore the structure of mathematics while building procedural fluency.

i-Ready uses diagnostics focused on sub-skills to develop individualized combinations of downloadable teacher-led lessons and online instruction for each student.

"I was very impressed with the Ready/i-Ready math program, including the depth of knowledge in the assessment and instruction," said Diana Spillman, 5th grade lead teacher at Millicoma Intermediate School in Coos Bay School District, in a prepared statement. "The reports and information that will immediately change and drive instruction are amazing!"
