2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge Opens

Discovery Education and 3M have opened the 2020 Young Scientist Challenge, an annual competition that calls on students in grades 5–8 to create a short video explaining “the science behind an idea aimed at solving a problem that positively impacts them, their school, family or community.”

According to the contest organizers, “Videos will not be judged on production skills and may be recorded on cell phones or basic digital cameras. Entries will be evaluated based on their creativity, scientific knowledge and effective communication skills.”

The grand prize is $25,000 plus a trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN. Ten finalists and 50 state merit winners will also receive prizes.

Entries are due April 21. Complete details can be found on the Young Scientist Challenge Site.
