Designed for children ages three to eight, Clever Island.comis a subscription-based, educational Web site. Evaluated by parents andchildren and planned by teachers, the site targets pre-readers and younglearners through sounds and animation. The site adapts to a child’s skill levelbased upon the child’s age, yet allows the difficulty level of games andactivities to be changed as the child masters new abilities. Parents can enrollup to three children per family for an annual fee of $39.95.

This site accompanies Annenberg/CPB’s new television andvideo series on American history, Biographyof America. The free site isbased on 26 of the chronological video programs. It lists key events of thetime period covered, displays a map relevant to the era, and offers atranscript of the video program, as well as an extensive bibliography andannotated list of Web links. The site offers four ways to reveal history, including“Image as History” activities, “You Decide,” “Interactive Maps” and“Interactive Timelines.”

Beyond Books is a standards-based online curriculum forgrades 6-12. The site provides hundreds of links to Web sites that correspond totopics that relate to the approved curriculum. Several games, puzzles,pictures, and a live chat with field experts are options offered on the site.
