FYI...Virtual Astronaut
Working with the Futron Corporation, Superscape has developed a Virtual Astronaut, a Web-based interactive learning environment for children aged 11 to 14 years. The Virtual Astronaut provides students and teachers with the opportunity to move about in a virtual space station and participate in a number of activities. Teachers also have access to documents to assist in incorporating the activities into the classroom. Designed to increase interest in science and math, the project was planned to increase accessibility to the educational products developed for NASA’s Space and Life Sciences Directorate. The site was developed using Superscape’s interactive 3D technology, and enables children to interact in a game-like environment. A second phase of the project is now underway and will add 23 additional activities relating to major areas of science on the International Space Station, such as bones, muscles and the neurovestibular.
