Kaplan Buys Sagemont, Virtual Sage

4/12/2007—Fort Lauderdale, FL-based education service provider Kaplan Inc. has purchased South Florida Sagemont Virtual, the company behind the University of Miami Online High School (UMOHS) and online high school course developer Virtual Sage.
The acquisition, the terms of which were not made public, will see Washington Post subsidiary Kaplan integrate Sagemont's online education offerings that let students remotely earn high school diplomas. It's courses target both full-time students and part-time students taking individual courses for college prep and high school completion. UMOHS serves students in grades 8 through 12, and all core courses are NCAA approved.
Online curriculum publisher Virtual Sage has developed roughly 200 high school courses implemented by online high school programs across the United States and is developing college-level courses, as well.
Sagemont and Virtual Sage were founded by Richard Goldman, Ph.D., the dean of the Graduate School of Education at Nova Southeaster University for 20 years. Goldman will continue to assist as a consultant, and Sagemont's and Virtual Sage's management teams will stay in place, working under Kaplan Higher Education, which includes Kaplan University, Concord Law School, and more than 70 campuses in 21 states that serve approximately 68,000 students.
