Quark Rolls Out K-12 Licensing Program

Quark has launched a new licensing program or K-12 schools. The program provides volume discounts for purchases of QuarkXPress 8, Quark's flagship page layout and publishing tool.

According to Quark, schools around the world are adopting QuarkXPress in their curricula to help teach layout and design, build publishing skills, and enhance communications.

"I have been overwhelmed by my students'--and their parents'--enthusiasm for the QuarkXPress 8 classes I've started teaching this year," said Lynne Brusco Moore, newspaper adviser at Nativity School in Hollywood, FL, in a prepared statement. Nativity is a Catholic elementary school serving about 875 students in preK through grade 8. "Students took to the program immediately and are creating amazing posters and flyers for class and school-wide activities, as well as advertisements, their own newspapers, and our school newspaper. It's important for me to give my students every tool possible to communicate, and to be able to combine content and design effectively with QuarkXPress is an especially useful skill as they move on to high school, college, and beyond."

"I can honestly say that I would not have been able to enjoy the success I have had in the classroom without QuarkXPress," said Irving Osterer, department head of fine arts, library, and communications technology at Merivale High School in Ottawa, Ontario, also in a prepared statement. "We are transitioning to QuarkXPress 8 now and produce everything you can imagine, from playing cards and large-format posters to amazing artwork with the Bezier pen tool. My students' work speaks volumes about how useful QuarkXPress is."

Through the new volume licensing program, QuarkXPress 8 has been drastically reduced from previous pricing, even educational pricing. As Quark described it, "For the regular educational price for 15 seats, your school gets 250 seats of QuarkXPress." That's 250 seats for about $1,500. A 500-seat license of QuarkXPress 8 runs about $2,500.
