Lexia Reading 6.0 Gets Automatic Student Placement Functionality

Lexia Learning Systems has released Lexia Reading 6.0, an update to the company's reading development platform for early, primary, and adult learners.

The Lexia Reading series includes software for three reading levels--Early Reading, Primary Reading, and Strategies for Older Students--and incorporates assessments and tracking features to help enable differentiated instruction.

The latest 6.0 release adds a number of new features, including Auto Placement functionality to help start students at the appropriate skill level. Using this feature, students spend about 10 minutes completing activities that help determine where they need help and at what skill level their instruction should start.

It also adds Auto Promotion for moving students into more advanced levels of reading when they've progressed enough at their previous levels. According to Lexia, "With this new functionality, students can work with more independence. Teachers will spend less hands-on time promoting students to the next program, and can instead monitor student progress using Lexia’s robust reporting system, and dedicate more time to those students with the greatest needs."

Other new features include:

  • Improved UI with "streamlined design";
  • Congratulatory screens for students;
  • Simplified student login; and
  • Command-line installation for admins.
