OLAT 7.2 Broadens Ajax Support in ePortfolio
A new version of the free and open source learning management system OLAT has been released. The new OLAT 7.2 gains improvements to the core software and to the ePortfolio module and incorporates several maintenance enhancements.
OLAT (an acronym for "Online Learning And Training") is a free, open source, Java-based LMS, originally developed at Switzerland's University of Zurich, which continues to lead its development. The course-based system is used in a wide range of academic institutions, medical organizations, and computing centers throughout Europe.
For the OLAT 7.2 release, developers skipped version 7.1.1, opting instead to incorporate features beyond the scope of the original release schedule. As a result, the new version incorporates both maintenance changes and some larger additions, including:
- Major changes to the core software to help improve development in future releases;
- Support for Ajax in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 in ePortfolio;
- Support for group titles greater than 100 characters in length;
- Improved handling of course exports; and
- Various other minor changes.
The next maintenance update, version 7.2.1, is expected in July.
OLAT 7.2 is available now. Downloads and links to additional documentation can be found here. A list of worldwide third-party OLAT services and support providers can be found here.
