Mimio Adds iPad App for Reading Comprehension Suite

Mimio has launched an app that provides access to MimioReading lessons and activities via iPads.

MimioReading provides Common Core State Standards-aligned lessons to help improve reading comprehension in grades 3-8. According to Mimio, MimioReading is appropriate for response to intervention programs and tudents who are learning English or speak it as a second language.

The suite includes four components: MimioSprout Early Reading; MimioReading Individualized Instruction; MimioReading Group Instruction; and MimioStudio classroom software. The 50 lessons provided in the iPad app focus on four reading areas, which include finding facts, making inferences, identifying themes and the "main idea," and learning vocabulary in context. Students receive individual usernames and passwords for log-ins, and the app also keeps track of student progress.

The iPad app provides features from:

  • MimioSprout Early Reading, for pre-kindergarten to second-grade students. It focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary;
  • MimioReading Individualized Instruction. It is an adaptive program that provides supplemental reading comprehension lessons for grades 3-5, and intervention for grades 5-8;
  • MimioReading Group Instruction, which includes editable interactive activities, and can be used for a small group of students or an entire class; and
  • MimioStudio classroom software, which includes handwriting recognition, presentation, grade scoring, and screen recording tools. It also provides an activity wizard for creation of lessons, and MimioStudio Gallery, which includes downloadable lessons and resources.

Schools and families that purchase the MimioReading comprehension suite receive the iPad app for free.
