Netgear Unveils New 802.11n Outdoor Access Point for K12

Netgear has revealed details about its new 802.11n weatherproof outdoor access point, the WND930, which is designed for K-12 schools.

Netgear's first outdoor wireless access point, the WND930 is a dual band concurrent 802.11n AP. According to the company it provides "high-throughput, high-capacity outdoor wireless coverage for parks, playing fields, pool areas, parking lots and other sites."

Key features of the WND930 include:

  • Up to 500 mW of RF (radio frequency) output power combined with a high gain internal antenna to maximize coverage;
  • Internal directional antenna to enable operation as a point-to-point mesh link between remote locations;
  • Optional external antenna to enable operation in access point mode for 360-degree coverage;
  • Redundant dual Power over Ethernet (PoE) Gigabit ports;
  • Ability to directly power other PoE devices such as surveillance cameras;
  • Wall mounting and pole mounting kits for flexible deployment options; and
  • IP-67 industrial grade enclosure with an embedded heater to enable operation in temperatures below freezing.

According to the company, the Netgear WND930 outdoor wireless access point will be available this month. Further information can be found on Netgear's site.

Netgear also announced its first dual band 802.11ac wireless access point, the WAC120, designed for small offices, as well as faster processors for its ProSafe 8-port gigabit VPN firewall, ProSafe 4-port dual WAN gigabit firewall and ReadyNAS 2120 series network attached storage.
