Moodlerooms Becomes Blackboard Open LMS

Blackboard is re-branding its open source learning management system. The LMS formerly known as Moodlerooms will now be called Blackboard Open LMS. The company said it's also "accelerating investment and development of the product."

According to Blackboard: "The rebrand follows Blackboard's strategic decision to exit the Moodle Certified Partner Program. Blackboard remains committed to providing clients with the most mature and stable Moodle-based Software as a Service (SaaS) product in the market and will continue to support the Moodle project. The decision to exit the partner program allows Blackboard to focus its resources on continued development of the Blackboard Open LMS platform."

Among the new features Blackboard plans to add as part of its increased investment in Open LMS are:

  • Improved IMS Global standard support;
  • New features offering improved in-app help;
  • A focus on universal access; and
  • "Deeper integrations with critical third-party partners," the company reported.

    California AI Watermarking Bill Supported by OpenAI

    OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
