Savvas Launches First Magruder’s American Government Interactive for Grades 9–12 and Civics Interactive for Grades 6–12

Savvas Learning Company has unveiled two new interactive digital social studies programs: Magruder’s American Government Interactive, and Civics Interactive, which provide continuously updated current events and content. The Magruder’s program complements the latest edition of the print textbook, while the Civics curriculum will be all digital. Both programs are built on the C3 framework (College, Career, and Civic Life) model for Social Studies State Standards.

Magruder’s American Government Interactive, for grades 9-12, adds to the latest edition of the over 100-year-old popular high school curriculum textbook. It is “the first social studies curriculum in the country with continuously updated digital resources,” Savvas said. The student edition is in an easy-to-read magazine format that educates students about America’s founding principles and core concepts. The digital program includes interactive current events that help them understand how government operates in their everyday lives.

The Civics Interactive program, for grades 6-12, is geared toward developing the skills needed to become informed and responsible citizens, and promotes civic involvement. The digital curriculum includes topic videos, inquiry projects, and other activities that use a hands-on, skills-based approach.

Both programs work on the Savvas Realize LMS.

“The study of American government is not a static subject,” said Bethlam Forsa, CEO of Savvas Learning Company. “What it takes to be an active, informed citizen is access to updated information that changes with each election cycle, policy change, and release of governmental data. This can make it time-consuming for teachers to constantly find not only the latest but also accurate resources for students.”

“What I value about teaching with Magruder’s American Government is that I can flexibly rearrange the topics to align with current events, like a congressional election or presidential year, without interruption to how the class progresses through the material,” said Mark Francis, the social studies department chair at Greenfield High School in California. “Rather than having a ‘chapter 1-12’ mentality, I can pick and choose the content for my class to keep my students engaged.”
