Kodak’s new DC290 zoom digital camera delivers good image quality, high resolution, user control and a programmable interface. It features a 2.1 megapixel CCD sensor that captures highly detailed images suitable for 8 x 10-inch prints. When maximum image quality is needed, the camera offers an uncompressed TIFF mode.

An autofocus, auto-exposure camera with built-in automatic flash, the camera offers a 3X (33 to 99mm equivalent) optical zoom, which can be digitally extended to 6X. It also lets the user adjust the exposure values two stops over and under in half-stop increments, and switch to a manual focus mode. In the same fashion as a traditional, professional camera, the DC290 has flash sync capability. In addition, an accessory lens mount is available to support 37mm threaded optional lenses and filters.

A USB interface for both Mac and Windows platforms enables significantly faster transfer of pictures than either serial or IrDA ports. Immediate LCD review on a 2" screen lets a user verify each shot. Finished file formats include JPEG and uncompressed RGB TIFF. There are also a burst mode, a time-lapse mode and an audio input and playback that let users record sounds with images. Eastman Kodak, Rochester, NY (800) 235-6325, www.kodak.com.
