MetaText Acquisition Rounds Out XanEdu’s Digital Course Materials

XanEdu’s recent acquisition of MetaText is expected to provide XanEdu customers with complete digital and print course materials. Next year, XanEdu also plans to deliver a fully integrated digital content product, including digital textbooks, tools, Web sites, the company’s ReSearch Engine and periodicals. MetaText brings more than 250 digital textbooks from 80 percent of the leading college textbook publishers. XanEdu’s existing databases offer millions of articles from thousands of copyright-cleared scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers.

The acquisition is expected to let faculty select specific course-centric textbook readings with current and relevant articles, cases and other curriculum materials. It also gives them the option to add other content through XanEdu’s copyright clearance service. The company’s MetaText platform offers a variety of tools for customizing text and communication with students. The syllabus creation tools allow faculty to organize content without requiring HTML. Instructors and students can also annotate any paragraph or highlight information using MetaText. In addition, both systems can be integrated into a learning management system or used independently.
