Sacred Heart Deploys 802.11n Across Campus

Australia's Sacred Heart College in Geelong, Victoria is rolling out 802.11n wireless networking across its entire campus. Sacred Heart is a "secondary college" for girls in grades 7 through 12.

The school replaced its previous wireless solution for the upgrade, shifting to Xirrus for its 802.11n WiFi Arrays. The deployment supports classrooms (with 30 or more concurrent connections each) and the school's computer labs. The school also expects to have a total of 1,300 laptops in use over the next three years, which will connect through the 802.11n WLAN.

"We talked about it a lot with other schools in the area and got the Xirrus guys down to look at an initial site survey, which really assured us from almost day one that this was a solution that would fit our needs exactly as we moved to larger and larger numbers of computers available to kids," said Rod Bush, ICT manager at Sacred Heart College, in a prepared statement. "It is really the only feasible way to supply sufficient bandwidth to the desktop for that number of laptops."

Sacred Heart College is a Catholic institution for girls and serves more than 1,300 day students.
