The Macintosh version, 1.0, has features tailored for educators' needs. It can block direct access to the Internet as well as specific functions and areas &emdash; newsgroups, ftp, Web, IRC, gopher, etc.

Version 2.0 of CyberPatrol for Windows also can control access when gained through commercial online services such as America Online and CompuServe as well as sites accessed through proxy servers. It is compatible with Web browsers such as Mosaic, Netscape, NetCruiser and more. Access can be restricted by destination site, general content or time of day.

A list of blocked sites comes with the product. This list is updated weekly and a subscription for six months of updates is included with purchase; longer terms are available.
