Capture MARC Records Easily

SIRSI's SmartPORT for Windows, for use with the firm's Unicorn LAS, uses the power of Z39.50 to streamline the process of identifying and capturing descriptive catalog records that libraries use in cataloging and acquisitions management. With SmartPORT, technical services staff can search multiple Z39.50 bibliographic resources; capture new MARC records directly into SIRSI's Unicorn system; overlay brief order records with complete MARC catalog records; and save MARC records for later professional review and loading. Once a MARC record is selected, a single command immediately loads the record into the Unicorn cataloging workform for local editing and physical processing. Match points may be selected by the library for automatic duplicate detection. If a matching record is found in the Unicorn catalog, a dialog box displays information about the existing matching record. SIRSI Corp., Huntsville, AL, (205) 922-9825, www.sirsi.com.
