Math and Science in a Flash

Texas Instruments continues transforming the handheld graphing calculator into a handheld student computer with the introduction of 14 new titles to its library of math and science software applications for its Flash-based handheld products. Flash-based products allow users to upgrade their units’ functionality electronically, and to download software applications. Many of the new software applications support the TI-83, the company’s most popular high school graphing product. Software subject matter includes Topics in Algebra I and Selected Topics in Secondary Science. These applications provide teachers and students with curricula in an electronic format that compliments their textbooks. All topics have a table of contents, an overview of the topic, suggestions on noteworthy items, and activities to reinforce skills.

 

Topics in Algebra I applies to the TI-73 Plus, as well as the TI-83 Plus, and includes topic overviews, observations and interactive activities. Sections cover number sense, linear functions and linear inequalities. Projected availability date is late 2000.

 

Selected Topics in Secondary Science, compatible with the TI-83 Plus, includes a collection of high school science topics with subject overviews, observations and tools to assist students in problem solving. Sections cover scientific notation, measurement, scientific methods, graphical relationships, data analysis and vectors. Estimated availability date is late 2000.
