01.25.2007—Discovery Education, a unit of media company Discovery Communications, today announced Discovery Education ThinkLink Assessment, a new student assessment suite. This latest release from Discovery is the result of the company's April 2006 acquisition of ThinkLink Learning, an assessment service provider.

The ThinkLink Assessment suite provides tests designed to match student proficiency requirements, defined by each state's NCLB plan. According to Discovery, in the 2004/2005 school year, 92 percent of ThinkLink schools maintained or improved adequate yearly progress status (AYP). This year the company will expand its services into 21 states and Washington, D.C., an increase of 13 states over the previous year. These include: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Discovery Education acquired ThinkLink Learning, which was founded in 2000 at Vanderbilt University, in 2006. ThinkLink also offers Benchmark Assessment, an assessment tool for reading and language arts, math, and science.
