Facts on File to Offer Subscription Video on Demand

Informational database publisher Facts on File has announced the launch of its own subscription video on demand (SVOD) service, offering streaming educational video titles and categorized segments aimed at the high school market.

Curriculum Video on Demand offers content from a diverse variety of news, information and educational providers, including Films for the Humanities & Sciences, PBS, BBC, National Geographic, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Bill Moyers Journal, Shopware, Cambridge Educational, and the news divisions of ABC, CBS, and NBC. The content is classified by six core subject areas: science and mathematics, social studies, literature and language arts, health and nutrition, business and economics, and visual and performing arts.

Features of the service include:

• More than 5,000 video titles, available for streaming anytime, and segmented into more than 50,000 clips, searchable by subject, keyword, or specific content;
• High-quality video, via Adobe Flash Player at 400 Kbps or 700 Kbps, and in many cases via Flash 1.5 Mbps for improved picture and sound;
• Correlated to high school curricula nationwide, according to state and federal standards, from basic course through advanced placement; and
• Regularly updated content, with new titles added each month for as many as 400+ new titles per year.

The service also includes several user management features, including seamless integration of videos and playlists into online card catalogs and distance learning systems; powerful search tools; usage tracking and reporting statistics; and closed-captioning on many titles.
