Vernier Debuts New Probeware for Education

At the FETC 2010 conference in Orlando, FL Vernier Software & Technology announced the release of two new laboratory science products geared to K-12 and higher education institutions.

Adding to its line of Probeware, the company introduced the LabQuest Mini and the improved SpectroVis Plus. The LabQuest Mini is a scaled-down version of Vernier's flagship laboratory interface, produced without a built-in screen. However, it offers many of the same features that are found in its professional counterpart, including:

  • 100 kHz sampling rate;
  • Five sensor ports compatible with 50+ sensors;
  • Logger Lite software for easy, compatible data-transfer to Mac OS X and Windows systems; and
  • 16 available lab books for hands-on experiments with the Mini in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, environmental science, and several others.

The SpectroVis Plus is an array diode spectrophotometer, an instrument used in measuring biomolecular absorption of a sample within the two light spectra, visible light and ultraviolet (UV). The improved edition offers a range of 380 to 950 nanometers, enhanced optical resolution, and new support for fluorescence. It can be used, with either a LabQuest interface or a personal computer, to conduct Beer's law investigations, kinetic studies, and experiments on enzyme kinetics, and to measure absorbance, percent transmittance, and emissions spectra.

The LabQuest Mini will be available in February at a unit price of $149. The improved SpectroVis Plus will retail for $449 and will begin shipping March 1.
