EBSCO Launches Next Generation Library Search Service
EBSCO Publishing has released EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), an advanced indexing system for all the resources contained in a library or other data-intensive institution that produces a more comprehensive and customized index of all data and full-text content than the existing standard.
The database aggregator and publisher said the new service offers a robust collection of metadata from its content sources, as well as full indexing from all EBSCOhost proprietary databases, such as Academic Search, Business Source, Dynamed, and MasterFILE, as well as all EBSCO database partners, including industry giants Newsbank and LexisNexis.
Among the features of EDS are:
- An integrated, one-stop search experience for a library's journals, magazines, books, special collections, OPAC, and more;
- Searches on full texts of journal articles and other academic resources from nearly every major academic publisher;
- Customization features that give prominence to the logo, design, and graphic features of the user institution rather than EBSCO;
- Options for setting up widgets such as library guides directly on the results page; and
- The option to repurpose bits of functionality from the EBSCO experience to other sections of a user's Web site.
