Florida District Rolls Out Performance Management Suite

Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) of Tampa, FL has completed the first phase of its deployment of a new suite of human resources management software aimed at reducing the amount of time necessary to manage core HR processes and developing and retaining teaching talent.

With more than 190,000 students enrolled in 248 K-12 schools and 60 learning centers, HCPS is the eighth-largest district in the United States. Growing concerns within HCPS about the amounts of time it takes to complete certain processes, as well as the inevitable time costs in recruiting and training new talent, led the district to seek out a way to ensure its hiring and retaining of a strong pool of innovative and results-driven educators.

The complete Lawson Talent Management Suite, version 3.4, includes applications to address all of the following: human resources administration, performance management, talent acquisition, compensation, succession, and learning and development. The district's initial deployment included the first two applications, with talent acquisition and learning and development definitely planned for the 2010-11 school year, and the remainder of the applications slated for either this year or next.

"The Lawson solutions will help us put in place an infrastructure to efficiently manage HR functions and evaluate employee performance across the district in a standardized and consistent manner," said David Steele, chief information and technology officer for HCPS. "We believe these measures can help us improve the development and retention of highly effective employees, which can ultimately help us deliver on our broader student achievement goals."
