California High School Wins Wireless Network

A Forestville, CA, high school has won $65,000 worth of new wireless network infrastructure and services, which will allow students and teachers access from anywhere on campus.

El Molino High School won the prize through Meru Networks' Summer of Wireless Makeover program and will receive $45,000 worth of infrastructure from Meru and $20,000 worth of deployment and integration services from Carousel Industries. El Molino was one of More than 500 schools to enter the contest.

Specifically, El Molino will receive the following, which will be installed during winter break:

  • Meru AP320i dual radio 802.11n access points that will offer access on 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands, and provide wireless coverage up to 75,000 square feet;
  • An MC 1500 controller, including a 15-access-point license. It runs Meru's System Director with Air Traffic Control, which directs all network transmissions;
  • SA200 with Meru's EzRF Network Manager and 50-access-point license, which lets the user monitor the network. In addition, EzRF OnTheGo allows the user to monitor the network through mobile devices, such as iPhone or iPod Touch; and
  • EzRF Visualize with 50-access point license, which reveals RF coverage.

The prize also includes a two-and-a-half day online course for one person that will focus on network monitoring, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting. In addition, technical support is provided for one year, which includes support, software upgrades, patches, and replacements.
