Toshiba IP Camera Withstands Weather Extremes

Toshiba's tamper- and vandal-resistant IK-WB80A is designed to work in extreme weather conditions.

Toshiba has developed an IP surveillance "bullet" camera built to operate in extreme temperatures. The new IK-WB80A features metallic housing that can work in heat and cold, snow, sleet, and rain. The company said the model is also tamper- and vandal-resistant.

Features include:

  • 2 megapixal/1600 x 1200 resolution to capture large outdoor spaces;
  • Dual MPEG/MJPEG streaming video for simultaneous viewing and recording;
  • Power over Ethernet to simplify installation;
  • A lens with 3x optical and 4x digital zoom;
  • Infrared (IR) illuminators that work up to 75 feet in darkness, along with a day/night IR cut filter;
  • A built-in card slot for SD and SDHC memory cards;
  • Two-way audio for on-site communications;
  • Tamper and motion detection with email alerts; and
  • A two-year warranty.

The camera list price is $731.40, but resellers have it priced at about $550.
