Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy Adds Classroom Time

An all-online public charter school in Louisiana will be adding classroom time for military family students. The Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy is opening a computer-lab-like learning center at the Barksdale Air Force Base Youth Center where students will be able to work alongside other students as they move through their online activities. The learning center will be open twice a week for three hours each of those days for the K-12 students.

In this blended program teachers, advisors, and parent volunteers will be on site to provide face-to-face instruction and support for students as they progress through their individual learning plans.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer an onsite program to students affiliated with Barksdale Air Force Base," said Perry Daniel, head of the academy. "Our school is proud to serve our military families, and we believe that this program will provide additional support to families and help students achieve academic success. The youth center at the base is an incredible facility, and we're grateful for the support we've received from Barksdale AFB community.

The Academy uses curriculum developed by K12. Students work on their own through assigned online courses and receive instruction through Web-based classes taught by certified teachers. Teachers also work individually with students in one-on-one sessions.
