Library Management

Follett Intros Destiny 17

Follett has updated its library management system. Version 17 of Destiny offers updates across the board, including these:

Enhancements in Destiny Library Manager include changes to preserve student information and privacy during self-checkout, such as a screen reset after so many seconds of inactivity; district-level single sign-on; the ability to check in a copy at any site in the district and in-transit status for books checked in at another site.

Destiny Discover, the interface through which students and teachers hunt down library resources -- print and digital -- features new simplified themes and navigation to help K-5 students search and access content. Also, the home page can be customized to show news and links. Search results are now also easier to sort through and include clickable links, and staff users have the ability to loan materials to other sites.

Collections by Destiny, a program that allows librarians, teachers and students to share digital resources, now enables educators to set specific educational standards for the site in setting up "classroom-ready collections" and other collections. Items can be moved around in the collection. Guests and anonymous users will be limited to viewing only public, non-student collections.

In the behind-the-scenes programs, updates to Destiny Resource Manager cover functionality to allow users to see the number of items on-site when ordering resources from a district warehouse and ship any that are available for circulation to the requesting site. Transfer operations have been tweaked to allow for scheduling and performing bulk activities and faster page loads.

Also, as Destiny software is being set up, there's now support for pushing certain configurations from the district to all or some sites. There's also administrator support for defining the primary authorities for educational standards to be used in collections. And new settings allow for broader customization of Browse by Topic.
