The
North
America Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF)
and Twitch
have announced that they'll work together to "leverage gaming
and esports for good." The immediate goal is to help young
people gain digital literacy skills. Among the topics under
discussion: digital citizenship, teamwork and collaboration, job
skills development and lessons on entrepreneurship and creativity.
NASEF is a nonprofit that develops programs and curriculum to help
schools adopt esports; Twitch is a streaming website for gamers.
Under
the new partnership Twitch will be working with NASEF to expand the
latter's gaming and esports curriculum. Twitch said it will be
developing a series of lessons to help students learn what it takes
to be a good streamer: developing their presentation and broadcast
skills, understanding various technologies and wooing sponsors to
launch an esports business.
"As
the premier streaming service, Twitch's influence reaches all corners
of the gaming and esports world," said Gerald Solomon, founder
of NASEF and executive director of the Samueli
Foundation,
which supports NASEF, in a statement. "Their knowledge of the
entertainment side of esports, coupled with their role as a major
employer in the industry, positions Twitch to influence the education
and future of the upcoming generation."
