LEGO Ed Intros New STEAM Sets for K–8

LEGO Education has introduced new sets of LEGOs to help students in K-8 learn physical science. BricQ Motion allows students to explore concepts in forces and motion, using sports such as skiing, gymnastics and racing.

BricQ Motion comes in two classroom sets: BricQ Motion Essential is intended for ages six-plus, includes 523 LEGO bricks and is intended to be shared by up to two students at a time; and BricQ Motion Prime is targeted for ages 10-plus, with 562 LEGO Technic and brick components, also intended to be shared between two students. The sets include access to teacher and student videos and interactive worksheets, assessment rubrics, tips to simplify or extend lessons and extensions for math and language arts. The contents form the basis for three curriculum units, according to the company, each providing six to 10 hours of lessons.

BricQ Motion

The sets are available for purchase separately ($99.95) or as part of a Hybrid Learning Classroom Starter Pack, which includes personal learning kits.

"From understanding the cause and effect of push-pull forces via a tightrope walker balanced with weighted bricks to exploring Newton's laws through land yachts and propeller cars, BricQ Motion was designed to engage...students and teachers in the discovery of STEAM concepts," explained Esben Stærk, president of the company, in a press release.

"I've used LEGO Education solutions for years, but I have colleagues who are nervous about diving into their technology-rich solutions," added Kristin Williams-Luthi, a science instructional coach at Gwinnett County Public Schools. "BricQ Motion is perfect for them. It's easy to get started, and without the technology aspect, adaptable to use with students, whether it's in-person, hybrid or remote learning."
