Two Programs Teach Reading and Writing

Two new programs from The Learning Co. are designed to help students ages six and above write essays, stories and term papers. For grades K-3, Read, Write & Type teaches the phonetic sounds of letters along with their positions on the keyboard, allowing children to write anything they can say. Forty English speech sounds are presented in a sequence progressing from single letters to common combinations. A simple word processor introduces the concept of e-mail. For grades 5 and above, Student Writing & Research Center combines a full-featured word processor with Compton's Concise Encyclopedia. Pick-and-click icons let one jump back and forth between research and writing. Citations and bibliography entries are automatically updated. The Learning Co., Fremont, CA, (800) 852-2255. W
