Firm's Routers Sweeten Use of Ga.'s PeachNet

Chosen to supply Georgia's statewide network for its university system was Bay Networks and its Wellfleet routers.

The PeachNet backbone comprises more than 70 Wellfleet routers connected by dedicated T1 lines, fractional T1 and 56K leased lines. The routers primarily route TCP/IP and some AppleTalk, and do some bridging for non-routable protocols.

The system offers access to the Internet, handles distributed payroll and myriad other administrative functions, and offers online instruction via a link to NovaNET. Cost savings and improved service both resulted in that older bridges were replaced while multiplexers and expensive dial lines were eliminated.

"Superior hardware at the time," is the reason cited for selecting the Wellfleet routers by PeachNet's Director of Engineering, who also explains that Bay Networks' Professional Services organization aided PeachNet's design and deployment. Bay Networks, Inc., Billerica, MA, (800) 8BAYNET.
