New CD-i Player Boasts Disk Drive

The CDI615DV, Philip"s new Professional Desktop Player, is suited for facilities that handle presentations, meetings and conferences.

The desktop unit, which looks like a VCR, plays CD–;i discs that feature interactive full–;motion video and includes a 1.44 MB floppy drive enabling the user to load or save information. An AT–;type keyboard can also be attached.

In addition, the unit features 32K of non–;volatile RAM for on–;board storage of updated program information. This memory also lets one upload or download data from a PC or Mac. All the appropriate cables are included.

Chrysler Corp., for example, has purchased Philips CD–;i for its dealerships to utilize in training retail sales consultants. The contract for 4,800 units is the largest ever awarded to Philips for the CD–;i player.

According to Chrysler, reasons for choosing the CD–;i include user–;friendliness, transportability and cost effectiveness.

Unlike most computer formats, CD–;i technology is world–;standardized, allowing one to play a CD–;i disc in any CD–;i player anywhere in the world. Philips Professional Products, Knoxville, TN, (800) 223–;4432.
