Notebook PC Boasts New Dual-Scan LCD

Sharp's PC-3040 notebook computer boasts a proprietary dual-scan screen technology that produces a high-definition picture with no waveform distortion. By adding a new optical film, the horizontal viewing angle of the screen has been widened from the conventional 66 degrees to 100 degrees.

Weighing just 5.5 lbs., the PC-3040 integrates an enhanced IDE 1.1GB hard disk, 8MB of RAM (expands to 40MB) and a floppy drive. It also contains two Type II or one Type III PC card slots for adding fax/data modems and other devices.

Every PC-3040 comes with a GlidePad pointing device, 32-bit PCI architecture and lithium-ion battery. An infrared port permits users of Puma Technology's Tranxit and IntelliLink software to wirelessly upload and download data from other PCs or PDAs equipped with an IR port.

Sharp offers a limited one-year warranty and 24-hour technical support hotline. Sharp Electronics Corp., Mahwah, NJ, (800) BE-SHARP, www.sharp-usa.com.
