BM, AMX to Market ATM Video Solutions

AMX has signed a partnership agreement with IBM to develop software for IBMís networked video solutions. As a result, AMX control and automation systems will be able to set up an ATM video link between two sites, as well as dynamically allocate 4, 8 or 12 MHz bandwidth for video transmission.

ATM, or asynchronous transfer mode, is a form of switching technology whereby variable-length data packets are transported through a network in cells.

The two firms already have started to build the Synergy Village, which links remote educational sites so that they may share media resources. The solution will give districts a practical, fast-track avenue for interconnectivity ó leasing ATM lines and bandwidth as needed from telephone service providers.

AMX and IBM have planned multiple installations of ATM video systems for the first half of 1997. AMX Corp., Dallas, TX, (800) 222-0193, www.amx.com.
