Schools in Singapore Use K-8 Science CD

The Ministry of Education (M'E) in Singapore has asked Science for Kids (SFK) to supply physical science CD-ROM programs to all elementary schools in the country. The publisher is represented in the region by Berkeley Multimedia.

Last year, 200 schools there evaluated SFK's Adventures with OSLO Tools & Gadgets, which has been named one of the top 100 CD-ROMs by PC Magazine and a Best PC Gift by Family PC magazine. The installation of more than 10,000 copies of the program was completed in July. Berkeley Multimedia worked closely with the Curriculum Development Institute of Singapore and the Computer Services Branch of the M'E to secure the order. Other SFK titles are under consideration in Malaysia, Thailand and China.

SFK has developed three lines of K-8 CD-ROMs for Macintosh and Windows machines. The Curriculum line comprises CELLebration, Forces & Motion, Simple Machines and Sound & Light. These programs come with lesson plans, student journals and Lab Toolkits. Registered users get free upgrades as they become available. Besides Tools & Gadgets, the Adventures with OSLO series includes World of Water and Save Our Planet. Finally, the Playground line has 15 titles, each carrying an SRP of $12.95.
