Houghton Mifflin Acquires Sunburst Communications

Houghton Mifflin has recently signed an agreement to acquire Sunburst Communications, the New York-based developer of software and video instructional materials, subject to regulatory approval. The acquisition makes Houghton Mifflin one of the top instructional software publishers - earlier this year Houghton Mifflin acquired the award-winning Little Planet Literacy Series from Applied Learning Technologies, Inc.

"Our agreement with Sunburst Communications represents another important step toward building a solid position in the school software market segment," said Nader F. Darehshori, chairman, president and CEO of Houghton Mifflin. "Sunburst's extensive line of software and video products combined with our direct marketing systems match perfectly with Houghton Mifflin's plans to aggressively market the best educational technology products to schools," commented Warren Schloat, founder and president of Sunburst Communications.
