LaCie's FireWire 4.7GB/9.4GB DVD-RAM drive

LaCie has introduced the FireWire 4.7GB/9.4GB DVD-RAM drive. The drive provides twice the performance at nearly twice the capacity of the first-generation drive, with substantially faster access times. LaCie has enhanced these features with a FireWire interface to allow users to add, remove, or swap the drive without having to restart the computer. Once connected, the FireWire drive mounts automatically without requiring terminators, device IDs or elaborate setup. The drive behaves like any other drive on the system, and each 4.7GB disc has the ability to store a two-hour video, hundreds of multimedia presentations, thousands of photos, or hundreds of thousands of documents.

The rewritable DVD drive can also read from discs currently accepted by CD-ROM, CD Audio, CD-R, CD-RW and video CD drives, as well as DVD-R and DVD-ROM drives. When equipped with an MPEG decoder, it can also be used for DVD video playback. The drive can be connected to Macintosh G3, G4 and iMac DV systems, as well as to PCs running Windows 98 Second Edition and higher. LaCie, Hillsboro, OR, (503) 844-4500, www.lacie.com.
