Adventure Program Teaches Environmental Awareness

Based on the real-life travels of an environmentalist and philanthropist, Miss Maggie's Earth Adventures is an advanced animated program that teaches students about the environment through a CD-ROM and Web site companion, www.missmaggie.org. Designed for teachers as well as students, the free program documents Maggie's travels around the world as she and her faithful dog, Dude, expose overfishing, pollution, coral reef vandalism and more. The program combines fun adventures with subject areas such as math, science and language arts.

Maggie's Earth Adventures offers lessons that include integrated theme units, a companion book featuring nonfiction articles, as well as prereading activities to encourage developmental and comprehension skills. The program also includes follow-up reading and writing activities, word study activities, hands-on science experiments, and cultural arts opportunities.
