Addressing the Needs of Students with Disabilities in Math

Students can have a range of physical, cognitive, sensory, and learning disabilities that affect their entire lives. Any of these might pose unique academic challenges, particularly when learning mathematics. The good news is that technology is removing barriers for the education of students with disabilities in regular classrooms. Unfortunately, not all software is based on principles of universal design.

Blackboard Continues Pursuit of Desire2Learn

As Desire2Learn predicted last week, Blackboard is indeed continuing to pursue its rival, this time with a contempt motion that claims Desire2Learn's Learning Environment 8.3 did not sufficiently correct its software to remove code and features that infringe on Blackboard's e-learning patent. D2L released Learning Environment 8.3 in March as a "design workaround" in response to losing a patent infringement suit to Blackboard in February.

InFocus Intros USB-based DisplayLink Projectors

This week at the Infocomm 2008 conference in Las Vegas, InFocus is showing off three new classroom and lecture hall projector series, along with new technologies designed to connect projectors wirelessly and to simplify connections between laptops and projectors using a computer's USB port for delivering video to the projector.

Loudoun, Garland Adopt 'On-Demand' Professional Development

Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia and Garland Independent School District in Texas have signed on with School Improvement Network for its PD 360, an online, "on-demand" professional development system that provides about instructional video content for teachers, administrators, and other staff.

eInstruction has announced the winners of its "Content Meets Technology" sweepstakes, which challenged educators to share their vision of the role of technology in education ... in 250 characters or fewer. The company also announced that it will be reviving its Video Makeover Contest, which is set to open for the second year in September 2008.
