Westside Union SD Automates Timekeeping

Westside Union School District of Quartz Hill, CA, which serves communities in the Antelope Valley about 60 miles north of Los Angeles, reported that it will automate its extensive district timekeeping processes with a solution from workforce management software provider Kronos.

Seeking to convert its error-prone manual timekeeping processes to a more reliable system, WUSD said it chose Kronos because the company's timekeeping solution is scalable in accordance with the district's continued growth in the number of students, currently at about 9,000, as well as educators and support staff. In addition, the software allows the K-8 district to capture important employment and payroll data not easily available via manual timekeeping, which helps it comply with the requirements of state labor policies and education codes, union contracts, and federal regulations.

Shawn Cabey, WUSD director of business services and information technology, remarked that the Kronos solution "requires minimal end-user client resources. It is an integral part of our IT infrastructure that helps us support our business process efficiency goals." Cabey said the district will also use the software to track the ARRA stimulus funds it receives. "The real-time labor data offered by Kronos will particularly help us accurately track labor to dollars so we can report on jobs saved and created."

The software also provides functionality that allows managers and employees to view their accrual balance and timecard information via the Internet, as well as reporting on such figures as overtime costs and substitute labor hours, allowing administrators to assess staffing needs.
