Discovery Education Targets Math with Techbook

Discovery Education is adding mathematics to its series of Techbook digital textbooks in 2014. The Techbook line also includes social studies for middle school and science for K-12.

Discovery Education's Techbooks, aligned to Common Core State Standards, provide interactive lessons that are customizable so teachers can add current events and other relevant information. The series, which uses the 5E model of instruction, also includes real-time assessments to monitor student improvement and identify areas in need of improvement. In addition, school districts that deploy Techbooks receive professional development training.

The cloud-based Math Techbooks will be available for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade math, Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry for high school. They "will provide students interactive, engaging learning experiences that help support their procedural skills, fluency, understanding of theoretical mathematics concepts, and ability to solve real-world problems," according to a news release from Discovery Education.

The superintendent of Mooresville Graded School District in Mooresville, NC, said Techbooks are being used in his schools, and student engagement is increasing as a result.

"Mooresville students have been using the Discovery Education Techbook series and have seen great results," he said. "It has brought instruction alive for our teachers and increased students' engagement and interest."

Techbooks can be accessed on laptop and desktop computers, as well as tablets and mobile devices.
