TextHelp Launches Free Fluency Tool

Literacy software provider Texthelp has launched Fluency Tutor for Google, a leveled reading and assessment tool designed to help teachers working with emerging or struggling readers.

The tool "allows teachers to choose from the included reading passages based on content, lexile level, or reading age and share them with individual students or groups of students via Google Drive," according to a news release. "Students can practice reading and record their assigned passages in a relaxed environment, at school or at home. Extra help is provided by dictionary, picture dictionary and translation tools. Recorded passages are automatically shared back with teachers allowing them to measure progress over time."

A free version of Fluency Tutor for Google is available in the Chrome Web Store. A premium version adds analytivcal tools for tracking student progress and a scoring system designed to help teachers assess recorded passages for word accuracy, hesitation and other metrics.
