MOREnet and Gaggle Partner to Protect Missouri Students Online

An extended agreement between MOREnet and Gaggle provides K–12 schools with a consortium discount on Gaggle’s student safety solution.

K–12 schools throughout the state of Missouri are eligible for student safety solution Gaggle Safety Management at a reduced price after Gaggle renewed its partnership with a Missouri-based Internet provider.

The Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) provides Internet and Internet2 access, technical services, resources and support to Missouri’s public sector entities, including K–12 schools, colleges and universities. MOREnet operates within the University of Missouri and has more than 700 members in its consortium.

MOREnet renewed its partnership with Gaggle Safety Management in a continued effort to help protect students against cyberbullying, self-harm, substance abuse and other harmful situations. “By combining machine learning technology with expert Safety Representatives, schools and districts can create safe digital learning environments for communication, collaboration and learning,” according to a statement from MOREnet.

The announcement comes a month after Governor Jay Nixon signed HB 1583, a law that requires school districts to adopt a youth suicide and cyberbullying prevention policy.

HB 1583 requires Missouri schools to adopt policies with the following components:

  • School district employees must report any instances of bullying when they have firsthand knowledge;
  • Districts must investigate any reports of bullying within two days; and
  • Districts must complete the investigation within 10 days.

"Through great partners like MOREnet, we're able to get in front of school districts eager to be proactive in preventing cyberbullying and other potentially harmful situations as a result of using school-issued technology," said Jeff Patterson, Gaggle's CEO and founder, in a statement.

Further information about the student safety solution is available on the Gaggle site.
