Albuquerque Schools Saves $2 Million with Operations Management Tool

Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) has recently gone public with its use of an operations management tool it says has helped save $2 million over the course of five years through preventive maintenance.

The district uses MaintenanceEssentials Pro, from Dude Solutions, to manage more than 70,000 annual work order requests and recurring tasks, saving an average of 30 minutes per request, according to a news release.

"MaintenanceEssentials Pro has been critical in managing the robust number of work orders we receive on a daily basis as well as supporting our efforts to reduce energy expenditures," said John Dufay, executive director of support operations at APS, in a prepared statement. "SchoolDude allows us to create a large database of past performance work so that we can benchmark and measure performance of our facilities and prepare for the future."

The district, comprising 16.1 million square feet of property and 14.4 million square feet of facilities across 161 locations, has also worked with the company to improve energy initiatives by tracking usage across facilities and has improved scheduling by allowing third-party organizations to book facility space through the company's EventEssentials Pro platform.

"Public school districts nationwide are experiencing growth in the number of events housed at school campuses, translating into increased operating costs in the form of all utilities, custodial overtime, and wear and tear on facilities, grounds, and athletic fields," added Dufay. "SchoolDude is helping us accommodate groups and programs in a more effective way."
