Los Angeles Unified and AllHere Partner to Launch AI-Driven Learning Acceleration Platform

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Harvard Innovation Labs venture AllHere have released the AI-driven "educational co-pilot" digital platform Ed, a tool available 24-7 to help support student learning beyond the school day.

The platform "provides students and families with an ecosystem of valuable resources and support for fast-tracking student achievement," according to LAUSD's news release. Ed is accessible in multiple languages and is currently available to students and families at select LAUSD schools, but is being phased into the rest of the district.

Ed has undergone pilot testing with LAUSD students and families and has received positive responses, the district said. The district formed a task force of technology experts, educators, families, and students to develop policies and training to use the platform. The district also provided professional development for teachers to help students use AI and other technology responsibly.

Ed utilizes and analyzes district data, which includes grades, attendance, and other district information, to suggest resources, programs, and at-home practices for each individual student to accelerate learning. Ed can also engage with students and families to provide reminders, prompts, and suggestions for social and emotional well-being.

Ed platform

Its key features are:

  • Streamlined, personal access to resources in a single platform;
  • Interactive, personalized learning paths, including reading, math, computer science and other subjects to engage in beyond the school day, according to student interests or needs;
  • Alerts on steps students and families can take to assist learning;
  • Progress reports on academic performance, such as grades, attendance, and graduation readiness;
  • Information on support resources to assist students;
  • AI intuitive adaptability based on interactions with students and families to provide better help; and
  • Approved and aligned content from curriculum providers.

"We understand that one size fits none when it comes to education," Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. "This resource is a game changer. By leveraging the power of AI, we are creating a tool for all students that maximizes resources beyond the school day by individualizing their education and integrating information for accelerating learning at a level never before seen."
