The program utilizes project-based learning to teach students about environmental issues, while competing for prizes and scholarships.

This week marks 10 years of the Lexus Eco Challenge, an educational program from Lexus and Scholastic that encourages students in grades 6–12 to tackle environmental issues.

Through the program, students “learn about the environment, teamwork and how they can take steps to make their communities better,” according to a news release. Students create practical solutions while competing for prizes and scholarships that total $500,000.

The Land & Water Challenge will run from  Aug. 15 to Oct. 16 and the Air & Climate Challenge run from Oct. 19 to Dec. 12. Winners from both challenges will proceed to the Final Challenge, which begins Jan. 16 and ends Feb. 27.
